São Paulo (SP) - The head of neurosurgery at the São Paulo Area Military Hospital (HMASP), Medical Captain Paulo Porto, participated in a major congress on neurosurgery, organized by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons - AANS: Annual Scientific Meeting 2019, held in San Diego, California, United States of America (USA).

Captain Paulo Porto, the only Brazilian to speak, spoke about Cervical Arthroplasty in the military population. During his presentation, Prof. Dr. Yi Lu, head of the spine surgery discipline at Harvard; Prof. Dr. J Uribe, head of the spine surgery discipline at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix; and Prof. Dr. Michael Wang, head of the spine surgery discipline at the University of Miami were present at the table. It is worth mentioning that these doctors are the greatest specialists in spine surgery in the world. Among the audience, there were several outstanding physicians, creators of techniques that currently benefit millions of patients.

Among the questions addressed to Captain Paulo Porto, Professor Yi Lu showed interest in the rehabilitation protocol adopted by the Neurosurgery team of HMASP and said he intends to adopt this protocol at Brigham and Women's Hospital, one of Harvard's school hospitals, under his supervision. In addition, he offered our residents and assistants the opportunity to perform the fellowship (a scholarship related to medical training) at that Hospital, in the area of spine. It is worth noting that Brigham and Women's Hospital is considered the best in the city of Boston.
